Based on issues identified in the Spanish Lake Youth Needs Assessment and discussions at the first two Task Force meetings, including the “wish list” developed by Task Force members, a small group met to draft possible goals to guide the work of the Task Force over the next 18 months.
MISSION: The Spanish Lake Youth Task Force will facilitate the development and sustainability of a comprehensive community response to increase resources that youth need in order to
become responsible young adults.
RESPONSE STRATEGY 1. INCREASE RESOURCES AND OPPORTUNITIES
GOAL: Identify and secure support for new and existing programs, both school and community based, to promote positive youth development and healthy behaviors. Key examples include:
Herbert Hoover Boys and Girls Club
Teen Outreach Program
Sports and athletics
Police Teen Academy, Explorers
Chess Club and other special interest clubs
RESPONSE STRATEGY 2. ADVOCATE FOR YOUTH NEEDS AND ISSUES
GOAL: Call attention to the needs of youth, the challenges they face, and our collective community responsibility to help them become responsible adults.
Identify and collaborate with key policy makers and stakeholders who can be youth allies, e.g., elected officials, government officials, churches, businesses, social service agencies.
Convene public forums and initiate conversations about youth-related issues
Support other groups and organizations with like-purposes
RESPONSE STRATEGY 3. SUSTAIN THE EFFORT
GOAL: Lay the foundation for resources, efforts, and attention to continue beyond the life of the Task Force.
Carry out all efforts and activities with sustainability in mind.
